The Southwestern Ontario Gleaners recently held its second annual Food for All Community Luncheon at the Roma Club. On September 20th, 350 people enjoyed a delicious pasta lunch to support the work of the Southwestern Ontario Gleaners.
The SWO Gleaners is a charitable organization in Leamington that takes unmarketable local produce and turns it into a dehydrated soup mix. This mix is distributed to other organizations locally and internationally to address hunger and food insecurity.
Thanks to loyal volunteers and donors, the SWO Gleaners has progressively increased their production and expects to distribute close to 5 million servings of dried soup mix this year alone.
Over the past 10 years, over 24 million servings of nutritious soup have been distributed. Local and provincial food banks and other charities receive and distribute this product to people in need. Internationally the product has gone around the world from Haiti to Ukraine, and various countries in Africa and Central America.
This year’s Food for All Luncheon raised over $25,000 for the work of the SWO Gleaners. The demand for food support continues to increase. Thank you to all volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who are truly making a difference.
